Meet Our Staff
His background of mathematics and physics led him to a position with Ford Motor Company. He retired after working for 35 years in a managerial position. Just before retiring, he and his wife Ruth Ann, moved to Shelby County to enjoy country living. In 2001, upon getting bored with retirement, he became the general manager for the Church. Gil and Ruth Ann have three daughters and six grandchildren.
Liz Barker became interested in Youth Ministry after the youth group leader left and the youth of the parish asked her to be the youth minister. Liz attended the Archdiocese Ministry Institute. In 2006, she became the Youth Leader at Annunciation. Liz continues to live in LaGrange with her husband, Donald. They have one son who is in college.
Father Bill was born in Louisville, KY on May 19, 1969 to Joseph S. and Cheryl A. Bowling (nee Chase). Father Bill was ordained a priest in 1997. In 2001, Father Bill became the full-time pastor of Annunciation and St. John. In addition to his assignment to Annunciation, he also assumed the duties of Vocation Director for the Archdioceses in 2004.
Cathy was born in Maysville, prior to coming to the Parish office, she worked in state government. In 1997, she became the part-time secretary for the Parish, then full time in 1998. Major responsibilities include greeting people, answering the phone, developing the Bulletin for Annunciation and St. John each week
Debbie Mudd, a Frankfort native, who came to Shelbyville via Chicago and Mobile 24 years ago, has been the Director of Religious Education since 2002. As DRE, Debbie oversees all aspects of Faith Formation (kindergarten through adult which includes RCIA, RCI Teen, and the Adult Bible Study group) at both Annunciation and St. John.Debbie and her husband, Joe have three children, and three grandchildren.
Deacon Bob is Human Resource Manager at Ichikoh Mitsuba, a automotive parts manufacturer in Shelbyville. Sometime during the years, Bob spent six years in the KY National Guard. He entered the Diaconate program and was ordained on August 23, 2008. Bob and Kathy have four children and one grandson.
Deacon Brendan “Butch” Kinsella was ordained August, 1999. He is retired from industrial construction, and is gradually ending his farming career after 34 years of rural living. Currently, Deacon Butch has a dual assignment, serving as pastoral delegate at St. John Chrysostom, in Eminence, Ky., and serving at Annunciation as requested by Father Bill.
Fr. Jack is a senior priest of the Archdiocese of Louisville. He has assisted with Masses at Annunciation and St. John since he moved to Simpsonville and began his retirement from active ministry. On May 23, 2009, Fr. Jack celebrated his 50th anniversary of Ordination to the Priesthood.
Music Director for the parish. Tom is married and has 4 children, and works part time at jewish Hospital Shelbyville.
Susan Catapano was born and raised in New York. She is married and has three grown sons.Susan owns and operates Art-is...LLC Music and Art Studio in Shelbyville where she teaches private piano and Art. In 2002, she started a bell choir ministry at Annunciation which continues today in excellence to outreach and praise the Glory of God.
Ben Farris, the only Shelbyville native on the staff, has been at Annunciation for almost 30 years. Ben attended the old Shelbyville School on High Street, but graduated from Seneca High School in Louisville. Ben is responsible for cleaning the Chapel, Church, Community Center, and Education Building as well as maintaining the lawn. Halloween is special to Ben as it is his birthday. Ben is married and has four grown children.

Fr. John served with distinction on the Naval Cruiser USA Hue City during the “Desert Storm” operation in Iraq. In 2002 he changed from service in the US Navy into service with the US Army. He worked for three years in Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, and later was transferred to Fort Meade, Maryland, then transferred to Fort Knox, KY for three years including one year of deployment to Iraq for the “Iraqi Freedom” operation in 2007.
